About Us

Bringing Science Closer
to Rural Communities

In tandem with the mission of the University of Venda, we aim to reach out to rural people and contribute significantly to the development of the rural community. The centre is strategically located in a rural area in Limpopo Province and was built from funds donated by the Zenex Foundation. The main aim was to bring Science, Mathematics and Technology education closer to the rural community. The centre was officially opened in May 2000 by Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa as a science resource centre. In 2004, the National Department of Science and Technology identified VSRC as a potential site for a rural science centre and approved a grant of R1.5 million to build an additional building for exhibits and related activities — officially opened in 2006 by Minister M. Mangena.
